Egypt is moving closer to finalizing one of its most ambitious infrastructure projects, with the development and expansion of Sokhna Port reaching 96% completion, officials stated.
The project is being implemented under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to transform Egyptian ports into regional hubs for transport, logistics, and transshipment trade. Once complete, Sokhna Port will be the largest and most advanced port on the Red Sea, designed to serve as a cornerstone of the integrated “Sokhna–Alexandria” logistics corridor linking the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
The upgraded port is expected to significantly boost Egypt’s role in global maritime trade by facilitating faster cargo handling, accommodating larger vessels, and enhancing connectivity between Asia, Africa, and Europe. It will also support Egypt’s wider strategy to strengthen its transport infrastructure, attract foreign investment, and expand its share in international logistics and supply chains.
Officials emphasized that the near-completion of Sokhna Port marks a key milestone in Egypt’s long-term economic development plans, positioning the country as a central gateway for international trade across the region.
