President Abdel Fattah El Sisi congratulated Sunday French counterpart on his re-election in the presidential elections for a new presidential term, wishing him to continue his career and lead his country to further progress and prosperity.
"I stress that the Egyptian-French relations were and still are close and growing historical relations," Sisi tweeted.
He added that he looks forward to "continuing consultations and mutual coordination on a number of regional and international files of common interest."
Macron, 44, won a second term with 58.5 percent of the vote, compared to 41.5 percent for his rival, the leader of the "National Rally" Marine Le Pen, 53, according to preliminary estimates. Macron became the first president to be re-elected since Jacques Chirac in 2002.
