Egypt's Seaborne Exports Increase 15-17%

Ayman Saleh, head of the Maritime Transport Sector said that the volume of Egyptian exports conveyed by sea increased by an estimated between 15-17% over the past 3 years.

This came during his speech at the celebration of World Maritime Day.

Saleh added that the cargo handling volumes at Egyptian ports increased by 8.6% in 2018, while the volume of exports and imports increased by 9% and 2%, respectively.

He praised the approval of the Minister of Transport to operate new shipping line between West Port Said Port and East African ports to expand trade and access of Egyptian goods in the African markets.

He said that the maritime transport sector is currently completing the comprehensive scheme of seaports according to the Egypt Vision 2030.

Saleh listed the achievements of the sector over the past fiscal year, to the issuance of new resolutions by the issuance of resolutions (416 417, and 800) for 2019, which gives great incentives to attract shipping lines to work in the Egyptian market.

He pointed out that the maritime transport sector granted 36 licenses to new shipping agencies to operate in Egypt, an increase of 5% over the previous year.

In the meantime, Egyptian exports to the European Union (EU) increased during the first half of 2019 to reach € 4.6 billion compared to about € 4.26 billion during the same period last year, an increase of 8.6%.
