The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced that the population of Egypt reached 107 million on Saturday.
The last million individuals were added over a period of 268 days, which is approximately eight months and 28 days, as stated by CAPMAS.
Between February and November 2024, Egypt recorded a total of 1.443 million births.
Nevertheless, there has been a decline in birth rates, decreasing from 21.1 per 1,000 individuals in 2022 to 19.4 per 1,000 in 2023.
This downward trend is indicative of the government's initiatives to control population growth, with the fertility rate falling from 3.5 children per woman in 2014 to 2.54 children in 2023.
Despite this progress, the annual number of births exceeding two million continues to present significant challenges, placing a strain on Egypt's resources and affecting economic, social, and environmental initiatives.
