Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said the government is accelerating efforts to draft legislation aimed at protecting children and youth from digital risks, in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for ensuring a safe online environment and preserving societal values.

Speaking during a meeting on Tuesday, Madbouly stressed the importance of addressing the growing risks associated with digital platforms and electronic games, including online gambling, digital addiction, and fraud involving virtual currencies.

He noted that this issue is a national priority due to its direct impact on social stability and national security.

The meeting reviewed a proposed national framework to enhance child protection online. Key measures include implementing age verification systems, strengthening parental controls, introducing content classification standards, and improving transparency through regular reporting and complaint mechanisms.

The framework also includes awareness campaigns to promote safe and responsible internet use among young people.

The meeting discussed a set of technical solutions, including the planned launch of a “child SIM” that provides safe internet packages with built-in parental controls and age-based restrictions, expected before June 30, 2026. Additional measures include tools to monitor and regulate fixed home internet usage in cooperation with telecom operators.

Madbouly also confirmed that the government is finalizing a number of family-related draft laws aimed at addressing social challenges, and directed that the child online protection bill be completed promptly for submission to the Cabinet.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy, Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation Khaled Abdel Aziz, Head of the National Media Authority Ahmed El-Moslemani, Head of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood Sahar El-Sonbaty, and Executive President of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority Mohamed Shamroukh, along with senior officials from relevant ministries and authorities.
