Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir reviewed progress on the first phase of the Alexandria Metro project, which is designed to enhance public transportation and support Egypt’s transition to sustainable mass transit systems.

During a tour of the project, El-Wazir said the first phase extends from Abu Qir to Misr Station over 22 kilometers and has reached 47 percent completion. The line includes 20 stations, six at ground level and 14 elevated, and will be served by 21 trains manufactured by the National Egyptian Railway Industries Company (NERIC).

Madbouli stressed the importance of accelerating implementation while maintaining international quality standards. The delegation inspected construction work and station development along the route between Mandara and Sidi Bishr stations.

The transport minister said the metro’s three phases will eventually extend 80 kilometers, linking Alexandria with Borg El Arab Airport and connecting with other rail and public transport networks. He added that the project will increase passenger capacity, reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion, and support environmentally friendly transportation in Alexandria.
