As Egypt continues under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's new term, which extends until 2030, speculation about a potential cabinet reshuffle in 2024 has captured significant public and media attention.
Amidst this backdrop, insights into the possible reshuffle and the continuation of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s leadership have emerged, pointing towards strategic adjustments within the Egyptian government.
Mohamed El-Homsany, spokesperson for the Cabinet, during an appearance on Amr Adib's show "Al Hekaya" on MBC Egypt, stated that the responsibility of announcing any cabinet reshuffle lies not with the Cabinet but with the presidency itself. He noted that while speculation is rife, any official declaration will come directly from presidential channels.
Journalist Mostafa Bakri, speaking on his show "Facts and Secrets" on Sada El Balad channel, outlined what might be expected in the 2024 reshuffle. He reported that several ministers, citing health reasons, have requested to step down, while others who have shown strong performance may be assigned more critical roles or retained in their current positions. Bakri highlighted the importance of national unity and effective governance, especially as Egypt seeks to navigate through ongoing economic challenges.
Bakri also noted that some ministers appointed in the last reshuffle in August 2022 might not be included in the upcoming changes. However, key figures in the economic and service sectors are expected to maintain their posts, with the potential for some second-tier officials in various ministries to be promoted to ministerial positions.
Additionally, Bakri mentioned that two members of the House of Representatives are under consideration for ministerial roles in service-oriented departments, though these appointments are not yet confirmed. He also hinted at a younger minister who has notably succeeded in addressing numerous crises and achieving significant milestones on both national and international stages, suggesting this minister is likely to remain in his post.
Regarding the prime minister's position, Bakri indicated that current indicators strongly suggest that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who has been in office since June 2018 and has led several major cabinet reshuffles, the most substantial of which occurred in the summer of 2022, will continue to lead. This continuity at the top is seen as a stabilizing factor for Egypt’s government as it addresses internal reforms and manages external economic pressures.
These discussions and speculations provide a glimpse into the strategic governmental shifts expected in Egypt as it adapts to new political and economic realities under continued leadership from President el-Sisi and Prime Minister Madbouly.
