Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed the centrality of the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea to Egyptian national security, in light of its close connection to the Suez Canal, and that Egypt is closely following developments in the situation in the Red Sea.

He pointed out that, despite the direct impact of the Red Sea events on Egypt’s interests, they are directly related to the war in the Gaza Strip.

This came during a discussion between the prime minister Wednesday, via video conference, with officials of shipping Giant “Maersk" group, in the presence of Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Vincent Clerc, Executive Director of the Maersk group.

The Prime Minister stressed that Egypt is wary of efforts to turn the Red Sea region into a hotbed of a new regional conflict, and is concerned that the war in Gaza will expand throughout the region, in light of the ongoing escalation it is witnessing, which was expressed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during his meetings with many International officials.

Madbouly stressed Egypt's continued efforts to stop the current war in the Gaza Strip, due to its repercussions on the security and economic conditions, whether at the regional or international level, stressing that no one can avoid the negative effects of that war.

Rabie affirmed the Suez Canal Authority’s aspiration for the return of security stability to the Bab al-Mandab region, in light of recent events, as well as the authority’s desire to increase aspects of cooperation with the “Maersk International” group.

On his part, Clerc stressed the importance of security in the Red Sea region, the necessity of providing the necessary protection for ships, as well as the negative repercussions of this matter on the global economy.

During the meeting, Clerk also touched on the attacks launched by the Houthi group, and the threat they pose to the security of maritime navigation in the Red Sea, and the group’s aspiration to resume its sea voyages, passing through the Suez Canal, as soon as possible, in light of the canal’s less cost and time.

He affirmed the company's commitment to cooperation with Egypt, given the importance this cooperation represents to the company's activity, and he looks forward to more aspects of cooperation between the two sides during the coming period.

In this regard, the prime minister stressed the continuation of communication and cooperation between the two sides during the coming period, to achieve common interests.
