On Thursday, the Egyptian Prime Minister, Mustafa Madbouli, visited the parliament headquarters to congratulate Dr. Hanafi Gibali on his election as the new parliament speaker.
During his visit, Madbouli was received by Dr. Gibali in his office, in the presence of the Parliament Speaker's two deputies Ahmed Saadeddin and Mohammad Aboul Enein, in addition to Alaa Fouad, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs
The Prime Minister expressed his confidence in Dr. Gibali to carry out his duties as the parliament speaker, affirming that the inaugural sessions of the House of Representatives reflected the civilized aspect of Egypt and its ancient institutions.
Madbouli also added that he had directed all the government ministers to show complete coordination and cooperation with the House of Representatives, wishing them all success in their venerable national mission.
On his part, Counselor Gibali expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Prime Minister for his visit, stressing the keenness to enhance cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities in a way that achieves the general interest of the Egyptian state, and to achieve the aspirations of the Egyptian people.
Notably, MPs gathered in a plenary session on Tuesday to elect a speaker and two deputies. Supported by the majority Mostaqbal Watan (Future of the Homeland) Party, Hanafi Ali Gibali, a former chairman of the Supreme Constitutional Court (2018-19), won the post to become the 51th speaker of parliament.
Ali Abdel-Aal, speaker of the 2015-20 parliament, did not stand for re-election.
Prominent businessman Mohamed Aboul Enein and parliament’s former secretary-general Ahmed Saadeddin were elected deputy speakers.
