In Johannesburg on Monday evening, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly took part in a high-level banquet hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for African leaders attending the 2025 G20 Summit, currently being held in the heart of South Africa’s economic capital.
Madbouly was accompanied by Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad, as he represents President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at this year’s summit.
Upon his arrival at the Sandton Convention Centre, the Prime Minister was received by President Ramaphosa. Madbouly conveyed President El-Sisi’s warm greetings to his South African counterpart, expressing Egypt’s appreciation for South Africa’s G20 presidency and for inviting Cairo to participate as a guest country in the 2025 meetings.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Egypt’s strong support for the priorities of South Africa’s presidency, praising Pretoria’s leadership in steering the group’s agenda and advancing African interests at the global economic forum.
During the dinner, African leaders engaged in an extensive round of discussions covering the full spectrum of issues on the G20 agenda. The talks highlighted what has been achieved under South Africa’s tenure, particularly regarding efforts to strengthen African perspectives and priorities within the G20 framework.
Madbouly underscored Egypt’s view of the G20 as a crucial platform for addressing the world’s most pressing economic challenges—from reforming the international financial architecture, to resolving debt crises, to improving global access to development financing. He stressed that the developing world is counting on the G20 to craft innovative and sustainable solutions that account for the needs of emerging economies.
In a significant milestone, the Prime Minister also expressed Egypt’s gratitude for being granted the opportunity to host an official G20 meeting in September 2025, a first in the group’s history for a guest nation. Madbouly described the decision as a testament to Egypt’s growing role and credibility on the international stage.
