Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources denied claims circulating on social media alleging the signing of investment agreements to develop 108 gold and precious metal mines in northern Sudan as part of a strategic partnership.
In an official statement, the ministry said the reports attributed to Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Kareem Badawi are “completely false,” stressing that he has made no such statements and that no official announcements have been issued by the ministry or its affiliated bodies regarding any such projects.
The ministry emphasized that all petroleum and mining-related projects, agreements, and investments are announced exclusively through official government channels to ensure accuracy, transparency, and the reliability of information presented to the public.
It added that its current priorities are focused on developing Egypt’s mining sector and increasing its contribution to gross domestic product, as part of broader structural reforms aimed at improving the investment climate and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in attracting both domestic and international investors.
The statement concluded by warning that legal action may be taken against those responsible for spreading false or misleading information attributed to the ministry or its officials.
