This year the annual Eid tradition was broken within Egypt as a result of the first day of eid also marking Egypt's opening match in the 2018 world cup. As a result of Egypt's first match in the mondial since 1990, Egyptian were forced to give up their occasional eid gatherings in favor of watching the match. This is not to say people didn’t commit to their annual family visits, but the topic on everyone's thoughts wasn’t the infamous "Eideya" or what's for dinner this year, it was the match that got everyone talking.
Egyptians flooded the match broadcasting locations in order to cheer for their beloved national team, ironically the Egyptian team lost as a result of a last minute header by Jose Maria Jiminez, but the Egyptians were able to enjoy a well executed game by their national team. The national team still has two more deciding matches left in its world cup campaign with the hopes of qualification resting on the shoulders of our players.
