Yesterday, a sense of pride and happiness filled me while Luxor attending the official announcement of a new archaeological discovery of “El-Assasif cache”, which includes a distinctive collection of 30 colored wooden coffins of men, women, and children.
The ceremony was addressed by Dr. Khalid El-Anani, Minister of Antiquities in the presence of world-known Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, who is considered an icon for promoting Egypt’s tourism.
The Egyptian archaeological mission was headed by Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, who was working day and night to announce the discovery of the new cache.
El-Anani said that these coffins are the first large human coffin cache discovered since the end of the 19th century.
The cache, which is the first discovery of coffins to ever be uncovered by an Egyptian archeological mission, included a distinct group of 30 colored wooden coffins belonging to men, women, and children, well preserved that details such as inscriptions are still intact.
The coffins had been discovered in the very same position as the ancient Egyptians had left them, sealed with the mummies inside. They were assembled in a cache two layers above each other; the first level includes 18 coffins, while the second contains 12 coffins.
“It is the first large cache of human coffins discovered with all items since the end of the 19th century. Today, more than a century later, Egyptian archaeologists are adding another new cache in Luxor,” Anani said.
As for rumors circulated by enemies of our country’s success, who claim that El-Assasif cache has been already discovered long ago, are completely baseless.
The cache has recently been discovered by Egyptian archaeological mission headed by Dr. Waziiri and not old as rumored.
I admired an impressive sentence said by Dr. Rizk El-Anany that President El-Sisi defends right and justice against chaos and rumors.
The discovery of this cache is, therefore, most timely, especially it comes few-months ahead of the official inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum GEM, which will include an exhibition hall to display the all newly discovered collection
Every Egyptian citizen has the right to express his pride in this country, which presented to the world this unique discovery and always attests the country's great impact on human civilization.
Congratulations to Egypt for the new Luxor cache.
