The Egyptian navy succeeded in rescuing a cargo ship flying a Togo flag which sent a distress signal at daybreak on Thursday off the country’s Mediterranean coast.
Egypt's Armed Forces revealed on Friday, the general cargo ship experienced a technical malfunction nearly 45 kilometres off the coast of the Egyptian city of Abu Qir.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian navy units headed toward its rescue mission point upon directives of the general command where it handled the incident, rescuing 7 crew members of different nationalities, in addition to two crew members one Egyptian and a Syrian.
In the same context, the navy provided all the necessary medical care to the rescued passengers.
All legal measures will be taken by the Egyptian authorities, according to the statement by the navy spokesman.
It's worth noting that the general cargo ship reportedly sank some 15 km north of Abu Qir, early in the morning of Mar. 11, while en route from Alexandria to Beirut Lebanon.
