On Monday, Egypt’s national football team landed in Cairo from Cameroon after losing the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title following a loss to Senegal in the final.
The record seven-time African champions lost to the Senegalese team 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw, missing out on a record-extending eighth crown.
“The national team squad arrived in Cairo on Monday, including Ahly’s players, who will head to the UAE later today to join their team ahead of Tuesday’s FIFA Club World Cup,” read a short statement by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
Egypt will still have a chance to make amends when they clash with Senegal again in a decisive two-legged World Cup qualifying playoff next month for a place in the World Cup that will be held in Qatar.
