Egypt’s Grand Mufti and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, Dr. Nazir Mohammed Ayyad, has strongly condemned the terrorist bombing that targeted St. Elias Church in Al-Duwaila district of eastern Damascus, resulting in the deaths and injuries of several innocent civilians.
In an official statement, Dr. Ayyad stressed that attacking places of worship is a direct assault on the safety and peace of societies, regardless of religion or sect. He described such acts as flagrant violations of humanitarian values and international norms, and a grave transgression against the sanctity of human life and sacred spaces.
The Grand Mufti warned that terrorism continues to exploit religion as a cover for crimes that have no connection to any true belief system. He called for unified regional and international efforts to confront such attacks, prevent their recurrence, and bring those responsible to justice.
Dr. Ayyad extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the Syrian people, praying for God's mercy upon the deceased, a swift recovery for the injured, and lasting peace and protection for Syria and its people.
