As part of their joint commitment to ensuring occupational safety and health standards and providing a safe environment in hotel accommodation units known as “Holiday Homes,” Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Mr. Mohamed Gebran, Minister of Labor, signed today a cooperation protocol at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The agreement sets forth the conditions and regulations for licensing such accommodation units.

The protocol reflects the collaboration between both ministries to maximize protection for employees and tourists residing in Holiday Homes, thereby enhancing the quality of tourism services provided and raising safety levels within these units.

Under this protocol, the Ministry of Labor is authorized to verify compliance with occupational safety and health requirements for both workers and guests in these units, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This will be implemented through joint committees composed of representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Central Administration for Occupational Safety and Health at the Ministry of Labor, tasked with inspecting the units. These inspections will follow the technical standards outlined in the ministerial decree issued last April by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities regarding Holiday Home licensing conditions and requirements.

This cooperation represents a significant step toward establishing a safe and sustainable environment within Egypt’s tourism sector, strengthening the competitiveness of the Egyptian destination and supporting the state’s plans to increase accommodation capacity to meet the anticipated rise in tourist arrivals in the coming period.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohamed Amer, Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops, and Tourism Activities, representing the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities; and from the Ministry of Labor, Eng. Khaled Abdullah, Advisor to the Minister for Occupational Safety and Health, and Eng. Mohamed Montasser, Head of the Central Administration for Occupational Safety and Health.
