Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that it is scheduled to complete the necessary procedures to start supplying Egyptian natural gas to Lebanon within the next few weeks, in light of what was agreed upon during joint talks held in Cairo with the Lebanese Minister of Energy Walid Fayyad.
El-Molla said, in a statement issued on Tuesday, that supplying Lebanon with its needs of Egyptian gas comes as mandated by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to support Lebanon to overcome the energy crisis.
He stressed that the talks with his Lebanese counterpart were successful and fruitful to lay down a road map for supplying Lebanon with Egyptian natural gas, which includes all technical, commercial, contractual aspects and the supply mechanism.
On his part, Fayyad confirmed that the two-day talks were fruitful, during which they discussed the mechanisms and quick measures that will be taken during the coming period to reactivate the agreements to supply gas through the Arab Gas Pipeline, passing through Syria and Jordan.
He added that the possibility of supplying additional quantities of gas, whether in the short or long term was discussed, noting that this cooperation would contribute to improving and advancing the Lebanese energy sector and restoring financial sustainability, in addition to preserving the environment.
