Egypt’s Minister of Labor Mohamed Gibran, held a meeting with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration between the Egyptian government and the UN.
The discussions focused on joint initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development, creating job opportunities, and advancing social protection programs.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Labor headquarters, highlighted Egypt’s commitment to aligning its national development priorities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Minister emphasized the importance of international partnerships in addressing challenges such as unemployment, workforce development, and economic inclusion.
“The Ministry is keen to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations to implement programs that empower youth, support women in the workforce, and enhance the skills of the labor market,” the Minister stated, adding that such efforts are critical for achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy.
The UN Resident Coordinator praised Egypt’s efforts in fostering economic growth and social equity, noting that the UN is committed to supporting the country through technical assistance, capacity-building programs, and funding for key projects.
Both parties agreed to prioritize initiatives that promote decent work, protect workers’ rights, and address the impacts of climate change on employment sectors.
Discussions also touched on enhancing the role of technology and innovation in job creation and boosting private sector participation in development projects.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to form a joint task force to identify specific areas of collaboration and monitor the progress of ongoing projects.
