Egypt’s ongoing review talks with the International Monetary Fund are progressing “well and positively,” Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Saturday, signaling continued momentum in negotiations tied to the country’s economic reform program.

Madbouly added the IMF delegation currently in Egypt had decided to extend its mission for an additional two days to continue discussions with Egyptian authorities.

“The review discussions are proceeding in a good and positive manner,” the prime minister said, without disclosing further details on the timeline for concluding the assessment.

Madbouly also highlighted what he described as a “very important” meeting between President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the French-African summit in Kenya.

According to the prime minister, the meeting was held at the request of the IMF chief, who praised Egypt’s handling of recent geopolitical and global economic shocks.

Georgieva commended the Egyptian government’s efforts in absorbing the impact of international crises while limiting broader economic repercussions, Madbouly said.

The remarks come as investors and markets closely monitor the IMF review process, which is seen as critical for unlocking further funding tranches and reinforcing confidence in Egypt’s reform agenda amid ongoing fiscal and foreign currency pressures.
