Egypt’s Grand Mufti and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, Dr. Nazir Ayyad, has mourned the death of Sheikh Ratbek Haj Nisanbayuly, the first Mufti of Kazakhstan following the country’s independence.
In a statement, Ayyad praised Nisanbayuly’s decade-long service as a leading religious figure, highlighting his scholarly legacy and his role in promoting moderation, balance and interfaith harmony in Kazakh society. He described the late cleric as a respected scholar who contributed significantly to strengthening Islamic institutions during a critical period in Kazakhstan’s modern history.
Ayyad extended his heartfelt condolences to Nisanbayuly’s family, students, and Kazakhstan’s religious institutions, praying for patience and solace for them and mercy for the deceased. He also emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of scholars who dedicate their lives to guiding communities and fostering tolerant religious discourse.
