Dr. Nazir Mohammed Ayyad, Grand Mufti of Egypt, President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, received Robert S. Silverman, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, at Dar al-Ifta to discuss strengthening cooperation and advancing dialogue.
The Grand Mufti outlined Dar al-Ifta’s mission in promoting a balanced and moderate understanding of Islam, emphasizing the role of fatwas in fostering social stability and addressing contemporary challenges. He highlighted key initiatives, affiliated with the General Secretariat, including Salam Center for Extremist Studies, the Global Fatwa Index, and mam al-Layth ibn Saad Center for Coexistence Jurisprudence.
For his part, Silverman commended Dar al-Ifta’s leading role in spreading moderation and combating extremist ideologies, expressing interest in deepening collaboration. Both sides affirmed the importance of strengthening Egyptian-American cooperation—particularly in countering extremism and Islamophobia—and promoting dialogue, tolerance, and mutual understanding.
