Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Prof. Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, said the intellectual legacy of Imam Al-Maturidi provides a balanced framework for addressing contemporary challenges by harmonizing reason and revelation while promoting moderation, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking at the International Conference of the Imam Al-Maturidi Heritage Center in Samarkand, Ayyad stressed that the unity of the Muslim Ummah is essential to civilizational progress and that reason, guided by divine revelation, is key to understanding Islam and achieving the higher objectives of Sharia.
He said the Maturidi school has played a lasting role in countering extremism, rejecting takfir and encouraging dialogue among Muslims. Ayyad also reaffirmed Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta’s commitment to expanding cooperation with religious and academic institutions to promote moderate Islamic thought and serve humanity.
