Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Nazir Ayad, on Monday extended his congratulations to former Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy following his unanimous selection as the new Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
Fahmy succeeds Ahmed Aboul Gheit after a formal decision by the Arab League’s ministerial council. Dr. Ayad, who also heads the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, described the appointment as a vital step toward strengthening joint Arab action during a "critical phase" for the region.
The Grand Mufti praised Fahmy’s extensive diplomatic career and national service, stating that his experience would help modernize the League’s mechanisms to better protect Arab national security.
In his statement, Dr. Ayad offered the full cooperation of Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta to work with the Arab League in promoting social peace and combating extremist rhetoric. He concluded with a prayer for Fahmy’s success in fostering unity and stability across the Arab world.
