Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Nazir Mohammed Ayyad, attended a celebration at Al-Azhar Mosque marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH, emphasizing the enduring lessons of the Prophet Muhammad’s Hijrah and its relevance to contemporary society.

Ayyad, who also serves as President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, said the occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the values embodied by the Prophet’s migration from Mecca to Medina, including faith, perseverance, sacrifice, and trust in God.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Grand Mufti highlighted the importance of drawing inspiration from the Hijrah to strengthen social solidarity, resilience, and unity within Muslim communities. He also underscored the need to preserve the historical and civilizational identity of the Muslim Ummah while addressing modern challenges.

The celebration, held at the historic Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, brought together religious scholars, officials, and worshippers to commemorate the start of the new Hijri year and reflect on its spiritual significance.

Ayyad expressed hope that the New Year would inspire renewed commitment to the values of moderation, coexistence, and constructive engagement in building stronger and more cohesive societies.
