Egypt's government is working against the clock to localize the electric vehicles industry to reduce emissions in the transportation sector.

In a new study, the Cabinet Information Center reviewed this week major incentives offered to localize the electric vehicles industry, including 2 percent fixed custom fees on imported equipment.

The new study entitled: “Localizing Electric Cars Industries…Chances and Challenges” aims at shedding light on the conditions of the e-vehicles industry worldwide, challenges and future visions.

The study underscored also a decision by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to promote the local assembly of electric cars.

The Center revealed that the government is working on securing additional incentives to encourage the local industry, including 50,000 pounds of support for the first 100,000 locally-made electric cars.

It also noted that the public sector companies are committed to annually replace 5 percent of their vehicles by locally-made electric ones.
