In a symbolic fusion of diplomacy, sport, and humanitarian outreach, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs marked the 200th anniversary of the country’s first foreign ministry with a high-profile run in the New Administrative Capital on Friday.

The event, organized in coordination with the Egyptian Diplomatic Club, brought together ministry officials, foreign diplomats, and representatives of international organizations accredited in Egypt. The turnout reflected a notable level of engagement from the diplomatic community, with ambassadors and embassy staff joining Egyptian participants in a rare display of informal, cross-cultural interaction outside traditional state settings.

Beyond its commemorative purpose, the run carried a humanitarian dimension. Organizers announced that all proceeds would be directed toward reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip, in partnership with the “Haya Karima” (Decent Life) foundation, an initiative closely aligned with Egypt’s broader development and regional assistance agenda.

Participants also took part in a parallel initiative aimed at reinforcing messages of peace and cooperation. Runners and attendees were invited to write personal notes advocating for regional stability and international security, underscoring Egypt’s long-standing diplomatic positioning as a mediator and proponent of peaceful resolution in regional conflicts.

The choice of the New Administrative Capital as the venue further highlighted Egypt’s efforts to present its modern infrastructure as a hub for international engagement. Wide boulevards and newly developed facilities provided a controlled environment for the event, which proceeded under tight organization and security.

The bicentennial celebration comes at a time when Egypt continues to navigate complex regional dynamics, with Gaza once again a focal point of humanitarian concern. By linking the anniversary to a charitable initiative, officials appeared keen to reinforce a narrative that blends historical legacy with contemporary responsibility.

While largely ceremonial, the run offered a glimpse into how Egypt is leveraging soft diplomacy tools, combining public events, international participation, and charitable causes, to project its role on both regional and global stages.
