Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, received Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al Yamahi on Thursday to discuss ways to support and develop joint Arab action amid current regional challenges.
During the meeting, Abdelatty praised the role played by the Arab Parliament in supporting Arab positions and strengthening the presence of the Arab voice in regional and international forums.
He said the Arab Parliament’s efforts serve the shared interests of Arab countries and reflect the aspirations of their peoples.
Abdelatty also welcomed Cairo’s hosting of the eighth conference of the Arab Parliament and the speakers of Arab councils and parliaments on 27 June.
The meeting reviewed ways to strengthen the role of the Arab Parliament during the coming period within the framework of the Arab League, especially as a new phase of joint Arab action begins with Nabil Fahmy assuming the post of Arab League Secretary-General on 1 July.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of coordination between Arab League institutions to improve their ability to respond to regional and international challenges.
He also underlined the need to develop mechanisms for joint Arab action, protect collective Arab interests and support the role of Arab youth in parliamentary work.
The meeting concluded with both sides stressing the importance of continuing efforts to strengthen Arab solidarity and activate parliamentary diplomacy.
They also highlighted the need to defend Arab interests in different forums, consolidate security and stability, and support sustainable development across the region.
