Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, received Nikolay Mladenov, the High Representative for Gaza, on Wednesday as part of continued consultations on developments in the Gaza Strip and efforts to strengthen security and stability in the region.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty stressed the need to complete the remaining requirements of the first phase of the US president’s plan.

He said these steps include enabling the national committee tasked with administering Gaza to begin its work from inside the Strip as soon as possible, deploying the international stabilisation force, and ensuring the entry of humanitarian, medical and relief aid.

Abdelatty said these measures would help consolidate the truce, strengthen security and create suitable conditions for the start of early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

For his part, Mladenov expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s central role in supporting stability efforts in the Gaza Strip.

He also praised Egypt’s continued diplomatic moves to bring the views of different parties closer together and advance efforts aimed at improving humanitarian conditions and strengthening prospects for peace and stability in the region.
