Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received on Thursday, March 29, Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, during his current visit to Cairo within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two sides.
At the beginning of their talks, Shoukry welcomed the first official visit by Prak to Egypt as it contributes to strengthening the already close diplomatic relationship between Egypt and Cambodia, praising Cambodia for choosing Egypt to be the only country in Africa to host its embassy.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the minister emphasized that Egypt was one of the first African and Arab countries to establish diplomatic relations with Cambodia since 1953, referring to the historical relations between the two countries.
The spokesperson added that they affirmed keenness on promoting joint investments and increasing the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Cambodia.
In turn, the high-ranking Cambodian official expressed his country's interest to foster cooperation with Egypt in the fields of culture, education, and tourism, praising the scholarships granted to Cambodian students at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, which is highly revered in the Muslim world and a symbol of Islamic Egypt.
