Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held high-level talks in Cairo with his Syrian counterpart Asaad Al-Shaibani, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating positions on key regional developments.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from both countries, including Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry, reflected a renewed push to deepen cooperation across political and economic sectors.
During the discussions, Abdelatty emphasized the long-standing historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties between Egypt and Syria, describing them as a foundation for advancing relations. He reiterated that Egypt’s approach to the Syrian crisis has consistently been based on supporting stability, preserving national unity, and safeguarding state institutions.
The Egyptian foreign minister reaffirmed Cairo’s support for the Syrian people’s aspirations, stressing full respect for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence. He also called for rejecting all forms of external interference, while highlighting the importance of combating terrorism and extremism, including the issue of foreign fighters, as part of a broader effort to restore stability.
On regional issues, Abdelatty strongly condemned violations of Syrian sovereignty, expressing firm opposition to any attempts to exploit the situation on the ground or expand territorial control. He also reiterated Egypt’s position on the need to uphold existing agreements and work toward ending long-standing territorial disputes.
The talks also covered wider regional files, including ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, developments in Lebanon, and the broader security landscape in the Middle East. Both sides stressed the importance of coordinated regional and international action to prevent further escalation and promote stability.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to enhance coordination at both bilateral and multilateral levels, building on existing political momentum to support stability and development across the region.
