A key phone conversation took place on Friday between Badr Abdel-Atty, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Mohammad Mustafa, the Palestinian Prime Minister.
The focus of the discussion was on the ongoing preparations for the upcoming conference on early recovery, reconstruction, and development in Gaza, scheduled to take place in Cairo in the latter half of November.
According to Tamer Khalaf, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conversation involved an exchange of views between the two leaders concerning the goals and expected outcomes of the conference. Key issues discussed included the financial commitments and funding mechanisms for Gaza's reconstruction, as well as a comprehensive update on the extent of the destruction in the region.
During the call, Minister Abdel-Atty expressed Egypt's anticipation for active participation from the international community, emphasizing that the conference would be a significant opportunity for global stakeholders to collaborate on Gaza's recovery. The conference will be organized under the broader framework of the Arab-Islamic plan, which was previously endorsed by Arab and Islamic nations, along with numerous international partners.
Additionally, Abdel-Atty highlighted the coordination efforts related to the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan, particularly with regard to the reconstruction and economic revival of Gaza.
Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa praised Egypt’s ongoing efforts in hosting the upcoming recovery conference, acknowledging Egypt’s instrumental role in facilitating the ceasefire agreement that ended the war in Gaza. He also expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s consistent support of the Palestinian cause and its defense of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian Prime Minister’s comments underscore the pivotal role Egypt continues to play not only in addressing immediate humanitarian needs but also in leading efforts for a sustainable, long-term solution to the challenges faced by Gaza.
As the date for the Gaza reconstruction conference approaches, both Egypt and Palestine are aligning their strategies and objectives, ensuring a united front as they engage with international partners to bring peace and stability to the region.
