Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast support for the United Nations and the multilateral international system during a meeting with Costa Rica's candidate for the post of UN Secretary-General, Rebeca Grynspan.

During the meeting on Sunday, Abdelatty stressed the importance of upholding international law and the principles of the UN Charter as the foundation for addressing global challenges and maintaining international peace and security.

He underscored Egypt's longstanding commitment to strengthening the role of the United Nations and supporting multilateral cooperation at a time when the international community faces growing political, humanitarian and security crises.

For her part, Grynspan presented her vision for the United Nations' future priorities, highlighting the need to enhance the organization's effectiveness and ability to respond to increasingly complex global challenges.

She emphasized the importance of strengthening the UN's role in promoting international cooperation and delivering effective solutions to pressing issues facing the global community.

The meeting comes as discussions intensify over the future leadership of the United Nations ahead of the selection process for the next Secretary-General, with member states engaging candidates on their priorities for reforming and strengthening the organization.
