Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon.
The call came as part of Egypt’s continued efforts to reduce escalation and support stability in the region.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for the Lebanese state and people.
He stressed the importance of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, while building on the framework agreement reached under US sponsorship.
Abdelatty said the agreement should lead to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, the extension of the Lebanese state’s authority over all its land, and the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Egyptian foreign minister also underlined President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to continue providing all forms of support to Lebanon, including its leadership, government, people and national institutions.
For his part, Berri expressed appreciation for the Egyptian leadership and praised Egypt’s firm support for Lebanon, particularly during times of crisis.
The two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation during the coming period.
