The El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in Egypt, a project led by Rosatom, recently marked a significant milestone with the pouring of the first concrete for its fourth power unit.
This event was attended via videolink by Egypt's President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
El Dabaa will be Egypt's first nuclear power plant and the first in Africa since South Africa's Koeberg. The plant, located about 320 kilometers northwest of Cairo, will have four VVER-1200 units.
The bilateral contracts from 2017 specify that Rosatom will build the plant, supply nuclear fuel throughout its lifecycle, and assist in training and maintenance for the first ten years.
This project is progressing faster than scheduled and is seen as a historic development for Egypt, contributing to its economic and social plans by providing secure, carbon-free energy.
