Egypt’s ready-made garment markets are witnessing a notable surge in consumer activity ahead of Eid al-Adha, as families across the country continue the long-standing tradition of purchasing new holiday outfits despite ongoing economic pressures.

The seasonal demand for “Eid clothing”, regarded as one of Egypt’s most cherished social customs, has brought renewed optimism to retailers and manufacturers, many of whom launched aggressive discount campaigns and promotional offers to stimulate sales during one of the year’s most important shopping periods.

Traders in major commercial districts including Downtown Cairo, Ataba, and Heliopolis said markets have experienced a gradual commercial recovery over the past two weeks, driven largely by families seeking to preserve the festive spirit for their children.

Although rising living costs continue to weigh on household budgets, children’s and youth apparel emerged as the strongest-selling categories during the holiday season.

Local manufacturers have played a central role in this year’s market activity, with Egyptian-made clothing gaining wider consumer acceptance due to improved fabric quality, modern designs, and significantly lower prices compared with imported alternatives.

Retailers said the growing reliance on locally sourced materials has enabled factories to maintain relatively balanced pricing for middle-income consumers while also offering collections tailored to a broad range of tastes and age groups.

Many stores introduced special Eid sales campaigns, with discounts ranging between 20% and 40%, in an effort to attract shoppers and increase foot traffic during the holiday rush.

Officials from the Ready-Made Garments Division at Egypt’s chambers of commerce described the Eid al-Adha season as a critical opportunity for factories and retailers to offset slower business periods earlier in the year.

They noted that purchasing patterns in 2026 reflected more cautious consumer behavior, with many families limiting purchases to a single outfit per child and prioritizing practical summer clothing suitable for extended seasonal use.
