Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta announced Wednesday evening that the Islamic month of Muharram for the year 1447 AH will begin on Thursday, June 26, 2025, following the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon.
The announcement came after specialized legal and scientific committees deployed across the country observed the new moon after sunset on Wednesday, corresponding to the 29th of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 AH (June 25, 2025). Based on the verified sighting, Dar Al-Ifta confirmed that Thursday marks the first day of the Islamic New Year.
On this occasion, Egypt's Grand Mufti, Professor Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, extended warm congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, wishing him continued health and success. He also offered greetings to the Egyptian people, as well as to the leaders and citizens of Arab and Islamic nations around the world.
Dar Al-Ifta prayed that the new year brings blessings, peace, and prosperity to Egypt and all Muslims globally.
