Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta marked the 130th anniversary of its founding on Sunday with a ceremony attended by senior religious leaders, public figures, and scholars.
Established in 1895 as the first organized fatwa institution in the Islamic world, Dar al-Ifta highlighted its historic role in guiding religious opinion and shaping contemporary Islamic scholarship. Speakers reviewed key milestones in the institution’s development and its contributions to renewing religious discourse in Egypt and beyond.
The event also paid tribute to generations of prominent muftis whose work helped build Dar al-Ifta’s reputation as a leading authority on Islamic jurisprudence. The celebration concluded with honoring former grand muftis in recognition of their decades of service and lasting impact on the institution’s mission.
