On Sunday, Egypt's Dar al-Ifta, officially declared that Monday, March 11, 2024, marks the beginning of Ramadan for the year 1445 Hijri, following the confirmed sighting of the moon crescent. This announcement came after diligent observations by specialized religious and scientific committees throughout the nation on the evening of Sunday, March 10, 2024, concluding the month of Sha'ban, the eighth month in the Islamic calendar.

In light of this significant announcement, Dar al-Ifta extended heartfelt congratulations to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, wishing him ongoing health and prosperity. Furthermore, the institution expressed its warm wishes to the Egyptian populace, leaders and citizens of Arab and Islamic countries, and Muslims all over the world. Dar al-Ifta hopes that this sacred month brings a time of blessing, peace, and security to all, reinforcing the ideals of unity and compassion among the global Muslim community.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds immense significance for Muslims worldwide. It is a time dedicated to fasting, spiritual reflection, and communal harmony, commemorating the period when the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad. During this month, Muslims engage in dawn-to-dusk fasting, refraining from food, drink, and other physical needs, focusing on spiritual growth, self-discipline, and empathy for the less fortunate.
