Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Gehan Zaki, has submitted her resignation to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Zaki said she respects the rulings of the Egyptian judiciary and decided to step down to spare the government any embarrassment over what she described as a personal matter.
She added that she will continue to take all legal measures available to her, including submitting a request for reconsideration of the rulings in accordance with the law.
Zaki stressed that exercising legal rights does not conflict with respect for judicial rulings.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly accepted the resignation and thanked the former minister for her efforts during her time in office.
He also wished her success in her future career.
