The recovery rate from COVID-19 at Egyptian isolation hospitals has reached 85% after receiving the necessary medical care, according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), health ministry spokesman, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health revealed that the number of people recovering from the virus increased to 377,600 cases.

On Wednesday, Egypt’s Health Ministry reported 2194 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 444,117.

The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 23,053 nationwide after the ministry announced 60 deaths.

About 3121 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising the total number of fully recovered cases to 377,600.

The recent spike in infections comes as Egypt continues to push ahead with efforts to expand its vaccination campaign to vaccinate 70% of the population by the second half of 2022 amid the outbreak of the omicron variant.

Egypt has administered a total of 38.1 million first vaccine doses and 27.5 million second doses since the start of the vaccination campaign in January 2021, according to the ministry’s daily statistics.

As many as 664,713 booster shots have been administered in recent weeks as well, bringing the total number of doses administered since the start of the campaign to 66.3 million.
