The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has launched a wide-reaching campaign aimed at promoting energy conservation in the agricultural sector, while supporting farmers through the adoption of modern irrigation methods and solar energy solutions, officials said.
Dr. Khaled Gad, the ministry’s spokesperson, explained that the initiative combines practical, field-based demonstrations with technical support for farmers. The program encourages the use of solar power, modern irrigation systems, and environmentally friendly alternatives to chemical fertilizers.
“The campaign goes beyond theoretical awareness,” Dr. Gad said in a television interview on Extra News. “It includes visual, audio, and hands-on guidance at agricultural extension centers and via social media, alongside the creation of model farms that showcase reduced chemical use and alternative inputs provided through partnerships with the private sector.”
The ministry’s digital outreach, under the slogan “Ma'ak Fi El-Gheet” (“With You in the Field”), highlights real-life examples of farmers who have successfully implemented solar energy. One farmer reported using solar systems for six years, recovering the installation costs within two years and benefiting from free energy ever since.
Dr. Gad emphasized that the ministry provides ongoing technical support and collaborates with companies to help reduce costs, reinforcing Egypt’s efforts to make agriculture more sustainable and energy-efficient while enhancing farmers’ productivity and income.
