Egypt has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global cooperation on food security, as Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk took part in the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in South Africa.
The minister attended the session that formally adopted the Ministerial Declaration on Food Security, a key outcome of this year’s discussions.
In his remarks, Farouk praised the G20 for prioritizing issues linked to soaring food prices, financing mechanisms, and market stability, noting that such efforts are crucial for safeguarding food supplies worldwide.
He emphasized that the declaration reflects the bloc’s focus on nutrition, agricultural policies, and international collaboration to reinforce sustainable agricultural development in line with global economic growth and stability.
“Achieving global food security cannot be realized without collective international action, particularly in addressing the needs of developing nations, especially in Africa,” Farouk said.
He underlined Egypt’s full support for the declaration’s commitments, which include improving agricultural productivity, accelerating the shift toward sustainable and climate-resilient food systems, and investing in agricultural infrastructure.
The minister also highlighted Egypt’s dedication to solidarity with developing and crisis-affected countries, stressing the importance of innovation, research, and technology to build more resilient food systems. He called for aligning the G20’s efforts with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, ensuring that global initiatives reflect the priorities of the continent.
“Egypt remains strongly committed to fostering international cooperation to build resilient, sustainable food systems that guarantee food security for all peoples,” Farouk added.
