Minister of agriculture and land reclamation Al-Sayed el-Quseir emphasized that despite the repercussions of the corona pandemic and the drop in international trade, Egypt achieved an unprecedented boom in the field of agricultural exports in 2020, as the total volume of Egyptian fresh agricultural exports reached about 5.2 million tons, with a value of about $2.2 billion, in addition to exports of processed and packaged agricultural products.

El-Quseir added on Sunday, during the plenary session of the House of Representatives, headed by Hanafi Gabali, that Egypt was able to occupy the first place in the world in exporting oranges to overtake Spain's position, which is an unprecedented achievement. The total volume of Egypt's exports of oranges by the end of 2020 recorded about 1.6 million tons.

The minister added that by the end of 2020, the total number of foreign markets opened for the Egyptian agricultural exports reached 150 countries, while the total number of items exported reached more than 255 commodities and items, due to the interest in the Egyptian product.

He pointed out that the number of markets that were opened in the past three years amounted to more than 38 markets, including 11 markets during the year 2020, and among these markets is New Zealand, which opened its market to Egyptian oranges.

Also, Argentina, Uzbekistan, and Brazil opened their markets to Egyptian citrus fruits, and India began importing potatoes.

Moreover, Indonesia opened its markets to Egyptian onions and El Salvador to pomegranate.
