Egypt’s agricultural exports have reached 8.5 million tons so far this year, marking an increase of nearly 700,000 tons compared to the same period in 2023, according to Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk.

A new report from the Ministry of Agriculture shows that Egyptian citrus fruits continued to dominate the country’s export basket, with total shipments approaching 2 million tons.

Fresh potatoes ranked second with 1.3 million tons, followed by sweet potatoes in third place with around 310,000 tons. Beans, both fresh and dry, came in fourth at nearly 300,000 tons, while fresh onions followed at 277,000 tons.

The report highlighted progress across several other key export crops, including 191,000 tons of grapes,148,000 tons of pomegranates,117,000 tons of mangoes, alongside growing shipments of tomatoes, fresh garlic, fresh strawberries, and guava.

Minister Farouk described the surge in agricultural exports as a “historic leap”, saying it reflects the strength and resilience of Egypt’s economy and the country’s commitment to meeting the strict quality and food safety standards of global markets.

He added that the strong performance is also a testament to Egypt’s success in expanding the competitiveness of its agricultural products internationally.

Farouk emphasized that Egyptian agricultural products continue to enjoy high levels of trust among international buyers, strengthening Egypt’s position as a global agricultural player and helping attract much-needed foreign currency.

He praised the efforts across the entire supply chain, from farmers to exporters, and highlighted the “pivotal role” of the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine and reference laboratories in ensuring product safety.

The minister also pointed to ongoing cooperation with relevant government bodies to open new and non-traditional markets for Egyptian goods, while removing logistical and procedural barriers to support sustained growth in the export sector.
