Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the U.S. Department of State headquarters in Washington on Monday to discuss key regional and bilateral issues.

According to a statement by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding Egyptian-U.S. Strategic Partnership, which has spanned over four decades. The two officials explored ways to enhance cooperation in various fields, including economic, trade, and investment relations, to serve shared interests.

Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s commitment to working closely with the new U.S. administration to foster security, stability, and comprehensive peace in the region. Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining regular rounds of the Egyptian-U.S. Strategic Dialogue at the ministerial level.

One of the key topics of discussion was the upcoming "Egypt Future Economy Forum," set to take place in Cairo later this year in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce. The forum aims to boost trade exchange and attract greater U.S. investment to Egypt, marking a significant step in advancing economic cooperation.

The two officials held extensive talks on pressing regional issues, including the situations in Gaza, Syria, Libya, Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering position, in line with that of the Arab and Islamic world, in support of the Palestinian people's legitimate aspirations. He stressed the necessity of achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister highlighted his country’s efforts in implementing the ceasefire agreement in all its phases, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery, and advocating for Gaza’s reconstruction.

He emphasized the importance of early recovery, debris removal, and rebuilding efforts while ensuring Palestinians remain in their homeland, rejecting any form of displacement.

On Sudan, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s full support for Sudanese state institutions and stressed the urgency of a ceasefire while respecting the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Discussing Syria, he underscored Egypt’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people and maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity. He called for an inclusive political process that ensures stability in the region.

Another crucial topic was Egypt’s water security, with Abdelatty reaffirming Cairo’s firm stance on the necessity of a legally binding agreement regarding the operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). He emphasized that such an agreement must protect the rights of downstream countries while ensuring mutual benefits for all parties involved.

The talks also covered developments in Lebanon, Libya, and the broader Horn of Africa, as well as maritime security in the Red Sea. Both sides agreed to sustain ongoing consultations and coordination to address mutual challenges and opportunities.

The meeting reaffirmed the deep-rooted partnership between Egypt and the United States, setting the stage for further collaboration on regional stability and economic development.
