Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stressed the importance of reaching sustainable settlements to current crises through political and diplomatic means.

Abdelatty made the remarks during an interview with Bloomberg while visiting Manila to participate in the ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The interview addressed Egypt’s foreign policy towards Southeast Asia and Cairo’s efforts to expand its partnership with ASEAN member states.

Abdelatty said Egypt was seeking to develop its institutional relationship with ASEAN and create wider opportunities for economic, commercial and investment cooperation.

He also discussed major regional and international developments and reviewed Egypt’s position on ongoing crises.

The minister outlined Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to reduce escalation, contain tensions and prevent conflicts from widening.

He stressed that political dialogue and diplomacy must be given priority, calling for lasting settlements capable of supporting security and stability at both regional and international levels.
