The Egyptian government allows Egyptians residing abroad to benefit from duty-free use of their personal mobile phones when visiting Egypt.

This initiative is part of the Mobile Phone Governance System for Imported Devices, aimed at regulating the market, preventing unofficial practices, and ensuring that travelers can carry their personal devices without paying customs duties for three month, instead of earlier regulation, which allowed each citizen to bring home one mobile phone every three years free of customs.

Under the program, travelers can use their phones for up to 90 days per visit without paying taxes or customs fees, provided the devices are officially registered.

To activate the exemption, travelers can contact the system’s customer service via:

Hotline: 15380 or WhatsApp: 01033151553, 01152118155, 01200038580, 01501592162.

Customer service staff will electronically register the devices to ensure the exemption applies and facilitate monitoring of devices entering the Egyptian market.

The system, launched in January 2025, aims to organize the mobile phone market, ensure proper payment of duties on imported devices digitally, and allow a grace period for device compliance before any regulatory actions are taken.
