Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, met with Asaad Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The two ministers emphasized the deep historical and popular ties binding Egypt and Syria, noting the importance of building upon the Syrian Foreign Minister's visit to Cairo in early May.
They also welcomed the convening of the second Egyptian-Syrian government meeting at the senior officials' level, with the participation of ministries and authorities concerned with trade and investment in both countries, to discuss executive steps for enhancing joint economic cooperation.
For his part, Abdelatty condemned the flagrant Israeli violations of Syria's sovereignty, emphasizing the necessity of Israel's withdrawal from Syrian territories and adherence to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Moreover, he stressed the need for full respect for Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Furthermore, Abdelatty highlighted the necessity of empowering Syrian national state institutions and rejected any foreign interference in its internal affairs, emphasizing that concerted efforts are vital to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations.
