Egyptian students in Ukraine took it to social media, calling for help after Russia declared war and started invading the country on Thursday.

About 3,000 Egyptian nationals are studying in Ukraine, particularly in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. Crashing sounds of missiles exploding were heard in Kharkiv just minutes after President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation Thursday morning.

In response, Egypt's embassy in Kyiv called citizens to stay at home and follow the instructions from the Ukrainian government until further notice. You can contact the embassy via mail at [email protected] or dial these numbers;

Around 6,000 Egyptians live in Ukraine, with the majority being students, according to Khaled Mohamed, the Head of the Youth Committee of the Egyptian Community in Ukraine.

Early this morning, Russian troops invaded Ukraine and crossed its borders into the eastern cities of Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Luhansk despite international calls for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

In response, thousands of Ukrainians fleed to Poland, escaping potential violence after Russia declared war and started invading their country by land, air and sea.
